Post cyclone Ita and only 2 weeks from planned departure date…

Cyclone Ita crossed the coast of far north Queensland over the weekend, with it bringing widespread rain and flooding. I am very happy to say that it was far less destructive than predicted however thoughts go out to the farmers who have lots crops and those whose properties have been damaged.

Because of the  massive amounts of water that have fallen – in some parts it was pushing 300mm in 24-48hrs – a major part of section 2 of the trail is impassible and river crossings are treacherous. We will see what unfolds over the next week with departure plans somewhat on hold as we wait for the water levels to drop so the route is passable again……
